EMC Standard Update EN55103-1 & EN55103-2

New EMC Standard Update: EN55103-1 & EN55103-2

What will change?

The latest versions of EMC standards EN55103-1:2009 and EN55103-2:2009 are now current for audio, video, audio-visual and entertainment lighting control apparatus for professional use. There is a transition period and the old Standards EN55103-1:1996 and EN55103-2:1996 will be fully withdrawn on 1st July 2012.

What this means for you?

EN55103-1:2009 and EN55103-2:2009 have two significant changes:

  • EN55103-2:2009 calls for the addition of frequency range 1400-2700MHz to the radiated immunity requirements
  • EN55103-1:2009 calls for the addition of conducted emissions requirements on Network/Telecommunications ports (e.g. Ethernet)

These aspects must be assessed by a test laboratory when evaluating a product against the requirements of EN55103-1:2009 and EN55103-2:2009 and any product still being offered for sale from the date of withdrawal of the old standards must comply with the new standards.
