EMC Pre Qualification

The most cost effective approach to product development is to qualify the prototype design, early in the development cycle, allowing a confidence in EMC performance.

Even with EMC best practice design principles in place, there are too many variables within a product which are not compensated for, such as; parallel capacitive and inductive coupling, PCB track and cable impedances, ground plane efficiencies, de-coupling stability, capacitive dissipative properties, parasitic characteristics and their associated LCR equivalent circuits, impedance mismatch, load capacitances, saturation effects, dielectric propagation velocity, current loops, I.C. clock and signal bus stability, resonances, harmonics etc, the list goes on.

EMC pre-compliance testing. Whilst the product is still in development, any subsequent required changes to the design resultant from EMC development and EMC pre-compliance testing are easily made in a cost effective manner.  After all, the PCB layout can still be improved without excessive cost at this stage, obtaining the maximum EMC performance from the design.

Leaving development EMC testing until the latter stages of design, or worse still, not performing any EMC testing until production commences, can result in an unexpected failure during EMC testing, which requires the hand modification and re-work of PCB's.  This unnecessary manual labour is one of the most costly mistakes made by manufacturers, and ultimately eats into the profit margins of a product.

Potential problems and contingency solutions should be identified as early as possible, so that problems encountered later in development can be handled in a controlled cost effective manner.  The re-design of a product can result in severe financial and time penalties, which can also lead to the loss of confidence from potential customers within the market.

The vast experience of our highly trained and skilled engineers is unrivalled within the industry, as our vision is not only to test and certify a product, but to support our customers, playing a vital role in assisting and providing solutions where necessary.

The so called "Pass/Fail mentality" is not present within our laboratories, and thus helps us maintain our client base, enabling us to stand out from the crowd and shine over the competition.

The TRaC can help minimise these potential hazards and pitfalls by offering the following services through our dedicated laboratories:

  1. Identify a problem
  2. Recommend a cost effective solution
  3. Source the solution i.e. filter design, if required
  4. Qualify the EMC design

We also offer:

  • Design consultancy and review
  • Educational EMC courses for Project Managers and Installation Engineers
  • EMC testing, tailored to "de-risking" the design prior to type-testing & approvals
  • Test equipment and software designed to locate the source of EMC emissions or identify the source of ingress

TRaC take product "de-risk" very seriously, let us help you by providing the complete service and solution!
